AIS MOB1 is a device that, when it is activated, sends a MOB messeage out via the AIS frequencies as well as via the DSC frequency. This means that everyone with an AIS transponder, or AIS receiver, will be able to receive the MOB information from your device. If a vessel has a VHF with DSC capability, it will also receive a MOB signal to the VHF radio*
The AIS MOB1 shall preferably be mounted on an automatically inflatable lifejacket. When the lifejacket is automatically inflated, the AIS MOB1 will be automatically activated.
The AIS MOB1 can of course also be activated manually.
If you have a plotter, radar, navigational app and/or a PC with a navigation software connected to the AIS unit, you will be able to see the AIS MOB device in the sea chart. If the presentation application connected to the AIS has a pretty new software**, your AIS MOB1 will pop up as an MOB device. If the software is an "older" version, the AIS MOB1 will (as any AIS MOB devices) pop up as a boat icon (triangle), but with an MMSI number starting with 972.
